* There will need to be a children’s program (60-80 kids)

  • 5 Spools of thread (any color) and 5 packs of sewing needles to donate
  • Children’s clothes (second-hand is fine)

Day Off

More details soon. You’ll probably want to bring a camera for this…and nicer clothes.

What to bring

  • Brick laying trowel (1 per person – it doesn’t have to be crazy-expensive. We’ll be leaving them there)
  • Work gloves
  • Safety goggles
  • Small pillow (optional)
  • Set of sheets (cheap one from Target is fine, for example)
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc.)
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • Bible
  • 1 “warm” outfit – jeans, sweatshirt, and light jacket (it might not even get cold, but we should be prepared for a dip in temperature)
  • church-appropriate clothes and shoes:
ladies – knee-length skirts or dresses, shirt with at least short sleeves (no strappy tanks).
guys – nice, casual church clothes
(remember we’ll be there two Sabbaths)
  • summer clothes (including 1 non-construction outfit for our day out in Santa Cruz)
  • underwear, etc.
  • socks
  • flip flops/sandals
  • shorts/swimsuit (one-piece) for swimming
  • t-shirts**
  • pants**
  • close-toed shoes (no sandals)**

** clothes that can get dirty on the construction site

Basic rule of thumb with the dress code on this trip:
When we’re on-site at the school, church, or at the evening program, we should be respectful and modest. Says Tara, “Modest become really subjective at times, but you will fry your skin with the Bolivian sun.”
No tank tops, short shorts, tight clothing (you’re going to be really uncomfortable), etc.

What not to bring

* Expensive electronics
Anything you don’t want to lose or get stolen
Large luggage (honestly we’re flying a tiny plane in to the jungle. There’s no room for that!)
Large amounts of $$
